This 55,000 gallon water tower was the first structure completed when Fort Ethan Allen opened in 1893. It is one of approximately 100 buildings in a National Register of Historic Places District.

The tower is presently owned by the Town of Essex and leased to the Champlain Water District, though it is not used to store water.
