Stone Methodist Church 1862
Stone Church in Eramosa Twp. Wellington Cty. is on East 1/2 lot 12, con 3, and was a Methodist Episcopal Church. The stone building was erected in 1862 and it remained Methodist Episcopal until Church Union in 1925 when they were placed on the charge with Rockwood United.
The first church was a frame building located on the north corner of the present cemetery grounds, on land donated by John Loree. His brother, Hezekiah Loree, died in 1833, and was the first burial in this cemetery. The Lorees and several other early members were United Empire Loyalists.
Early ministers were Rev. John Smith, and Rev. Cook. In 1871, the Methodist Circuit in Eramosa was formed consisting of Bethel, Mimosa and Stone Church. First minister on the new circuit was Rev. Findlay Malcolm Smith, later of Carmel in West Garafraxa Twp. Everton Methodist Church was closed in 1919, and Rockwood became a part of the charge. The parsonage stood beside Stone Church, but a new parsonage was built in Rockwood before 1924, and it became the residence for the ministers.
