Who We Are
Winnipeg’s Ronald McDonald House is a short-term residential facility where families of seriously ill children can reside while their children receive medical treatment in Winnipeg. Ronald McDonald House provides a secure and stable environment for the families during this stressful time.
Winnipeg’s Ronald McDonald House is a warm, comfortable and welcoming setting where parents of seriously ill children can relax, prepare a hot meal and share their concerns with other parents in similar situations. It is conveniently located two blocks from Children’s Hospital. Amenities include a large comfortable kitchen; games room; two TV lounges; a living room; a laundry room; and a children’s playroom. All floors are accessible by an elevator. Families sleep in a clean and welcoming private bedroom. The house is also a smoke and alcohol free environment.
Winnipeg’s Ronald McDonald House is completely dependent on volunteers. They are the backbone of the House and provide assistance in almost every facet of the organization. Dedicated men and women serve on the Board of Directors, comprised of local business people, concerned citizens and representatives from Winnipeg medical facilities as well as McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. We have volunteers serve on committees such as Golf, Fashion Show, Operations, Communications; In-House helpers-minor maintenance, housekeeping, preparing mail outs; evening relief.
Although McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, their suppliers and Ronald McDonald House Charities provide some financial support, Winnipeg’s Ronald McDonald House must still depend on the generosity of Manitobans for donations of money, services and gifts-in kind. The House is not supported by any government or United Way funding.
These valued “Friends of the House” provide funds and goods to benefit the very special families of seriously ill children. Most of these children are from Manitoba but the house also welcomes families from Saskatchewan and North Western Ontario.
