This 55,000 gallon water tower was the first structure completed when Fort Ethan Allen opened in 1893.

The tower is one of approximately 100 buildings in the district, a map of which, showing contributing and non-contributing buildings, is here (tower is in the extreme southeastern corner adjacent to a non-contributing building). The water tower is presently owned by the Town of Essex and leased to the Champlain Water District, though it is not used to store water.
