This compact museum packs a lot of life into an historic library building. There is a tidepool touch tank, with local intertidal animals. There is a living bee hive built into one glassed-in wall (no touching the bees, please). There are weekend programs for children to get acquainted with such charmers as the California king snake, or live bats. The permanent exhibits include wildlife dioramas and native Ohlone artifacts. Outside is a lifesize gray whale sculpture 12 meters (38 feet) long, to climb on.
