The bridge is the only surviving medieval bridge in Bucks.
The new bridge was built in 1974 and the old, a scheduled monument, protected from the traffic.

This attractive Old mediaeval bridge at Thornborough, dates from about 1400 and was in use up to 1974, when the new road by pass took traffic away.
There is now a picnic area and start to the walk towards the Nearby burial mounds these are not prehistoric, they date to about 200AD. They yielded many gold and bronze ornaments and treasures when the Duke of Buckingham excavated them in 1839 including a glass urn containing human remains. and across the fields to the quarry.
