This sand and gravel quarry is one of many in the Pine Ridge/Birds Hill area. It's on a private (use at your own risk) road running between Oasis Rd and Lorne Hill Rd.

Starting in the early 1900s, the massive gravel and sand deposits in the area were developed. This material was transported by train to the expanding city of Winnipeg where it was used for building and road construction. An estimated 137 million tonnes of material had been removed by 1975. Many of Manitoba's largest operators continue to quarry sand and gravel in the area for the production of concrete and asphalt.
