The red and blue miniature train was a favorite of park goers for nearly 40 years before the dilapidated condition of the train and the tracks made it unusable. The locomotive and tracks were fully restored by Summer 2008 at a cost of $43,000 to $48,000.
The engine, built by Chance Rides Manufacturing in Wichita, KS, went into operation in 1965. The last full year of service was 1999, when 8,000 folks took a ride. Tracks run along the edge of a reservoir.
Train hours (Closes for Season November 1)
Monday - Friday 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Saturday 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Sunday 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
It costs $1 to enter Steele Creek Park, unless you find the north parking lot and walk some distance to the station.
