The Sharon United Methodist Church was built in 1855. The congregation traces its roots to 1829. In 1988 the Rose of Sharon United Methodist Church was dedicated as an Historical Church by the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church, due in part to its role in founding Plainfield College in 1860. The church continues to serve its active congregation.
