to get here you need to follow the footpath signs and they will lead you to a fenced area of trees, within which, can be found the remains of the first St.Marys Church, Stoke Mandeville, which became disused sometime around 1905, this was later demolished by the army after some local children were killed playing here in the ruins by falling masonry. There are still a few graves scattered around the mound that contains the church ruins.
The village was originally recorded as Stoches in the Domesday Book of 1086, from the Old English word stoc meaning an outlying farm or hamlet. The suffix Mandeville was first recorded in 1284 when the manor was listed as being in the hands of the powerful Norman de Mandeville family.

The original copies of the parish registers for St Mary the Virgin, Stoke Mandeville have been deposited in the Buckinghamshire Record Office in Aylesbury, and they hold the following years:

Event Dates covered
Christenings 1699 - 1874
Marriages 1699 - 1837
Banns 1783 - 1877
Burials 1699 - 1900

The former medieval parish church on the outskirts of the village was condemned in the mid 20th Century and has now been demolished altogether.
The newer red brick parish church of St Mary remains as the only church in the village apart from the Methodist church in Eskdale Road.
