The Peace Bell was cast by the Verdin Company in France and brought to the United States up the river via New Orleans. It was cast in December 1998 and rung on December 31, 1999. It rings every day at noon and on special occasions.
There is a Museum, Bridge, Bell and Tower and plaques commemorating the monument.
The marble below the bell reads:
Peace
Peace starts at home.
Peace starts at our schools.
Peace starts on our city streets.
If we have peace in our homes,
and in our schools,
And on our streets
the our governments
And our nations will follow
And we will have world peace.
To sustain this peace,
We must continue to write about it.
We will need to read about it,
We will have to talk about it
to our family, and friends, and neighbors.
And when our Peace Bell Rings,
the world will listen.
