Approximately 300 lakes are stocked from facilities such as the Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery. Named after one of Calgarys earliest homesteaders, the hatchery opened in 1973. It produces rainbow, brook, brown and cutthroat trout. A self-guided tour is available or book for guided group tours.
The hatchery is located in the Pierce Estate Interpretive Wetlands area which is a natural are on the banks of the Bow River in Inglewood community.
The hatchery is normally open to the public for tours but is closed at the present time due to renovations being carried out on the visitor center. It is expected to open again in spring 2009. The hatchery is still operational during this time.
