The French 40 & 8 Merci boxcars were used during World War 1 to transport 40 soldiers or 8 horses or 8 mules throughout the European battle zones. In order to show their appreciation for the American support, after the war the people of France presented one car to each state, plus one car for Alaska and one for Hawaii (not yet states). This one is very well taken care of by the Grand Voiture de NH group.
