The village was established in 1887. Many of my relatives did their business there and farmed nearby. Other than this cairn, there is no evidence of there ever having been a settlement. The cairn can be found just north of the "old 47 bridge" north of Grenfell, Sask. Go north from Grenfell to the bottom of the "new" 47 Highway hill, turn a hard left, go west to a "T", turn right and follow to the bridge and cairn.

The plaque reads:
SASKATCHEWAN HISTORY & FOLKLORE SOCIETY INC.
VILLAGE OF HYDE, ASSINIBOIA
SE 1/4 21 19 - 7 W2M
ONE OF THE OLDEST LANDMARKS OF THE DISTRICT WAS THE VILLAGE OF HYDE, ESTABLISHED IN 1887 ON THIS SITE BY A.E. HYDE.
MR. HYDE, WHO CAME FROM ENGLAND, HAD A DREAM TO SET UP AN ENGLISH ARTISTIC ESTATE. AT ONE TIME THE VILLAGE INCLUDED A HOTEL, STORE, BLACKSMITH SHOP, COURT HOUSE, ANGLICAN CHURCH, BOAT HOUSE AND POST OFFICE. MR. HYDE RAN OUT OF MONEY AND WAS FORCED TO SELL ALL HIS BELONGINGS AND DESERT THE VILLAGE. WHEN THE C.P.R. RAILROAD LOCATED AT NEUDORF IN 1904, NEUDORF OFFERED MORE CONVENIENCES TO THE AREA'S SETTLERS. THE VILLAGE OF HYDE SLOWLY BEGAN TO DISAPPEAR.
