This county fairgrounds was opened in 1935 and has been used ever since for public events. There are two arenas, livestock barns, and a midway set under shady old oak trees. There is a small or large event almost every weekend of the year, including the centerpiece: the six-day long county fair each summer, which includes 4H livestock showing and auction, floriculture, home arts and fine arts exhibitions, as well as such classic fair entertainment as a petting barn and a dog agility performance.

Friends of the Monterey County Fair provide volunteer staff for setup, exhibit monitoring, and check out.
