Holy Trinity church of Chapel Stile stands at the foot of Silver How mountain, and over looks the village of Chapel Stile and the slate quarries,
The present church which was built in 1857 is to a design of Cory and Ferguson of Carlisle, the style is of decorative Gothic, which was prominent through Britain in the 14th.century.
The church is built from local green slate.
There are several stained glass windows in the church of excellent quality, the St.Francis window is by locals Mr.and Mrs.Dean Walmsely.made in their nearby Great Langdale studio and is of exceptional quality blown glass.
The church clock can be described with justice as Big Ben's country cousin.
The designer of Big Ben was Lord Grimthorp and it was built by Edward John Dent, the earliest church clock known by Gimthorp and Dent was at Holy Trinity church Meanwood in Leeds, and the one here at Chaple Stile is also one of theirs and an exact copy, the difference here being that this clock has never been altered or modified like the Meanwood clock, apart from in 1995 when electric winding mechanism was installed as it was becoming difficult to find volunteers to carry out the heavy task of manual winding.
Date the Church was built, dedicated or cornerstone laid: 01/01/1857
