The Greystones Unit of the Irish Coast Guard has been providing rescues from Shankill to Newcastle since 1820.

The Greystones unit consists of 18 volunteers trained in both maritime and cliff side search and rescue.
The equipment list includes cliff rescue van, 4 x 4 jeep, quadrunner All Terrain Vehicle, and of course a boat.
A new harbour development to the north will soon provide a new state-of-the-art station at the harbour as opposed to the present location off direct access to the water.
