The White Rhinoceros is more properly named Square-lipped or Broad-lipped Rhinoceros. It is the more common of the two African rhinoceros species. It is frequently used as a symbol of conservation efforts in South Africa.
This stone sculpture is located on the main level entrance plaza at the International Convention Center in Durban, SA. A plaque at the base of the statue details its symbolism.
