The White Rhinoceros is more properly named Square-lipped or Broad-lipped Rhinoceros. It is the more common of the two African rhinoceros species. It is frequently used as a symbol of conservation efforts in South Africa.

This stone sculpture is located on the main level entrance plaza at the International Convention Center in Durban, SA. A plaque at the base of the statue details its symbolism.

The artist,Dylan Lewis, is a leading contemporary sculptor of animal figures but he is perhaps best know for his large bronze statue of Nelson Mandela that stands in Sandton, SA Link
