These gates are at the lower end of the canal just before the water enters the beach. The Bude canal was opened in 1823 mainly to transport sand from the beach, the present gates were erected in 2000 when restoration took place along the canal.

Connected Points: Today only the first two miles of the canal from Bude to Helebridge have water in them and are used by for fishing, walking and boating. Much of the remainder of the canal is overgrown, though canal preservation groups are opening up paths along the route of the old canal.
