The building of this large Victorian church is similar in size to the large country houses of the time, where the owners and servants of the houses would attend, and would be seated in their own private pews, these pews were removed as times changed allowing the congregation to sit where they pleased.
The church stands proudly on a small hill giving it an elevated position above the rest of the village.
The church is built from local lake district slate, with sandstone dressing, the inside of the church contains wonderfully carved woodwork and also a number of very fine stained glass windows.
The extremely colourful East window displays Christ the Good Shepherd,in the scene can be seen the black sheep hidden from the flock.
