The Hall of Remembrance is a solemn tent-like structure which allows visitors to pay their respects to the memories of the martyred dead. On the floor are the names of six death camps and some of the concentration camps and killing sites throughout Europe. In front of the memorial flame lies a crypt containing ashes of victims.

There is no music or sound of any kind inside. Only the whispers of the ghosts from the past & perhaps the sobs & soft mutterings of prayers from another person there.

There is a eeriness that slowly seeps into your soul as you stand here in the shallow light with nothing but the letters on the floor & the flickering of the flame. The thoughts begin to run through your mind at a rate that is almost uncontrollable. Questions that can't or won't ever be answered.

When you leave this room there is a part of you that will never be the same. That may be good. It may be bad. But it will be out of your control & always there.

This Memorial was named Yad Vashem "And to them will I give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name (a "yad vashem")... that shall not be cut off." (Isaiah, chapter 56, verse 5

The 'Hall of Remembrance' was 1 of the first buildings on this 45 acre site. In 1953, the Israeli Knesset passed a law that provided for the commemoration of the Holocaust on the 27th of Nissan, a date that usually falls towards the end of April or the beginning of May.
