From a sign in the museum -
A symbol of Ogden's heritage, the present Union Station is the third of a series of depots built to serve the needs of rail travelers. Ogden's earliest depot was constructed shortly after the linking of the tracks at Promontory and served until 1889, when a much larger, Victorian-style station was opened to the public. A fitting expression of the railroads' importance in Ogden, the second Union Station stood until February 13, 1923 when it was destroyed by fire.

Erected on its predecessor's foundations, the present Union Station was built in the Spanish Colonial style. Opened in 1924, it stands today as a monument to the time when railroads were the primary mode of transportation and the depot was the center of Ogden's economic activity.
