During 2007 a lot of restoration work was carried out on the remaining buildings and chimney stacks. His Royal Highness Prince Charles, Prince of Wales visited the site on the 10th May 2007 to inspected the work.
The mine is very old and was probably at work in the early 1600's. During that period it was worked mostly on the lead lode, and again in the late 1700's. From about the late 1830's the amalgamation of Holmbush with other nearby mines it was re-started under various names to the final closure in 1892.
Holmbush mine developed five ENE-WSW copper-tin lodes of which only Holmbush and Flopjack was developed to any depth. A N-S lead lode was also worked. Where the lead lode intersects the E-W lodes it displaces them 15mts north on the east side. The lead lode was worked by levels driven north and south from the other two E-W lodes lodes between the 90 and 132 fathom levels. The two E-W lodes about 185mts apart where developed by a number of shafts to a depth of 390 mts.
The dumps were worked in 1919-21
