This shrine and torii were given to the city of Tacoma by their sister city, Kokura, Japan.
An engraved block of granite dedicates the shrine and torii to the region's pioneer issei, 1st generation Japanese immigrants, and their significant contributions to the Puget Sound area.
It can be found in the Japanese Garden of Tacoma's historic Point Defiance Park.
