The permanent exhibits at the Imperial War Museum are mostly centered around the World Wars - although conflicts after 1945 are also discussed.

The museum is not just on the military equipment and personnel. There are exhibits devoted to the civilians in war, with the Holocaust Exhibit being one of the most impactful.

The multi-level exhibit provides a timeline of how the Holocaust came about through the early politics and ultimately to the "Final Decision" and how it was implemented.

Personal points of view are provided from the victims inside the walls to those outside the walls, and to the criminals who perpetrated these horrendous acts.

There is currently a temporary exhibit about art and the Holocaust entitled "Unspeakable."

All of the permanent exhibits are free of cost and most allow photography, however the Holocaust Exhibit does not permit photos. There is even a guard at the entrance asking everyone to turn OFF cell phones.

The purpose of the cell phone check is not only to prevent unauthorized photography, but also to provide a quiet, contemplative atmosphere.

Visitors are guided through the exhibit explaining how and why the Holocaust occured in a chronological order. Artifacts, recreations, quotes, and oral history videos offer just a glimpse in the horrors that abounded.

Even after studying the history of World War II and the Holocaust, the one thing that is not easily portrayed by the old war footage you may have seen over the years is the scale of in which the Holocaust was carried out. One room had the entire organizational chart of who reported to whom painted on the walls. Another room had a diarama the size of two ping-pong tables end-to-end showing just a fraction of one camp - and there were hundreds of these camps!

The exhibit concluded with the war crimes trials and their aftermath, but you walk away that they were not enough. Justice could not be served on this Earth.
