Starbucks entered the Korean market in 1999 and now has over 200 stores, mainly in the major cities. Their chief competitor from the U.S. is Dunkin Donuts, but there are many Korean coffee house chains and independent coffee houses to satisfy the need for coffee and convenient places to meet. These have almost completely replaced the tradional Korean tea houses, and they are considerably more expensive.
