Story of Otford Village, Otford, Kent, UK - Mosaics on Waymarking.com

This mosaic depicts the history of the village of Otford, from pre-history through to the present day. It was commissioned by the Otford Society to commemorate the millennium.

The Mosaic starts with pre-history (a Pterodactyl), then moves on to a man making flint tools, the Bronze Age, the arrival of the Romans (there is a Roman villa nearby), Anglo-Saxons, The Battle of Otford (776) between King Offa of Mercia and the Jutes of Kent under Egbert II, Normans(?), Thomas Becket (after whom a holy well in the village is named), the origins of Cricket, the arrival of Steam, modern times and ends with a mother picking an apple and handing it to a child.

In the border are dates and representative objects (a skull for the Black Death, up to a mobile phone and a DNA helix.

The mosaic is by the artist Oliver Budd.
