Text on plaque at gate entrance: "This field is given to the community of Elizabeth City County in memory of J. S. Darling a citizen of Hampton from 1866 to 1900"
I have been unable to find any more information about Joseph S. Darling. If anyone knows more about this man, please contact me. Although there was a "Fort Darling" south of Richmond during the American Civil War, I have been unable to determine who Fort Darling was named after, so cannot determine if the two are related in any way.
