This trail follows the scenic East branch of the Pemigewasset River along an old railroad bed used during the logging hey day. In 2.9 miles of easy hiking it takes you to a bridge that crosses Franconia Brook before it enters the river. Just before the bridge another trail branches left and in about .49 miles reaches Franconia Falls. This part of the trail has a little more elevation gain but it is still not very bad. The entire 7 mile round trip can easily be done in well under 4 hours.
