As a part of Mahnmal gegen Krieg und Faschismus (Memorial against War and Fascism) on the Albertinaplatz in Vienna. Sculpture Alfred Hrdlicka created a monument to the Nazi holocaust victims. This sculpture is called The Kneeling Jew.
In the Book "The texture of memory" by James Edward Young, the author refers to the statue as "The Street Washing Jew". The author tells us that after Auchwitz, local jews were sent through the streets to scrub anti-Nazi grafitti off the buildings and cobblestones. With this statue, Hrdlicka accuses those who stood by and did nothing. (

The memorial is in an open area of the square, and no fee is required to enter.
Passerbys stop and leave flowers in memory.
I, personally was very moved by the artists expression. If I had a flower, I would have left it.
