There are several good places to put in if you have your own kayak. The launch area closest to metered parking is the Breakwater Cove ramp, just south of the Coast Guard Pier. Paddle east to clear the end of the breakwater, then head north and west along the coastline. Along with the scenery, you will almost certainly see otters, seals, sea lions, and quite likely dolphins. The large modern structure of the Monterey Bay Aquarium is about one mile along the route, at the end of the crowded Cannery Row buildings directly on shore. West of the Aquarium is Pacific Grove's coastal park, with beautiful shoreline rock formations and a pocket beach or two. The perfect spot to come ashore is in the cove at the base of Lover's Point, N 36° 37.500 W 121° 54.960. There is almost no surf there. Be watchful for scuba divers in the area !! There is a public restroom above the cove, and a tiny snackbar is open most weekends. Retrace your route to your launch point - the prevailing wind will be at your back on the return.
