Built from fossilised shell rock dated at more than two million years old, the 33.5 metre Memorial Tower has 176 steps leading to the viewpoint on its rooftop. It offers excellent views of the city, Mts Taranaki and Ruapehu and the Tasman Sea.
Unveiled in 1925, the tower at Durie Hill is the official Wanganui County memorial to those who died in the First World War.
