The Samson Military Museum is located inside the Samson State Park area and was originally one of the Samson Air Force Base buildings. The Samson Air Force Base was opened in 1942 and trained over 411,000 recruits during the next 4 years. Later the base was closed and a majority of the land turned over to New York State to be used as a state park. One main barracks remain and has been turned into a museum, showcasing the history of Samson Air Force Base and Naval Station. There are many "displays" in the museum and one of them displays the mess hall complete with the vintage Coca-Cola vending machine listed here, with its 5 cent coin slot. Note: access to this waymark requires entering the Samson State Park which does charge an entrance fee of $7.00 per vehicle.
