This memorial has been erected on the Green of the Cathedral over looking the City of Durham. A lot of the men would have know Durham before their lives were sadly cut short in a far off land.

This memorial is dedicated to the memory of the Officer and Men of the Durham Light Infantry who lost their lives during the South African campaign 1899 to 1902.
The regiments and the soldiers names are listed around the plinth of the cross.
The memorial was erected in 1905.
