Huckleberry Swamp was created by the Olga Fleisher Ornithological Foundation, a private, non-profit organization founded in 1979 for the preservation of habitat for birds and other wildlife. Their mission is to protect vulnerable wetlands, teach wildlife and conservation education and to facilitate ecological research. Huckleberry Swamp has extensive interactive boardwalks that wander through the swamp, allowing visitors a close-up view of nature and wildlife. Some of the birds that can be found living in the swamp are the Cardinal, Wood Pecker, Wild Turkeys and Great Blue Herons. The Swamp is open at no charge to the public from April to October, Tuesday through Sunday, dawn to dusk.
