This museum is housed in the former Palace of the Segura family, a baroque building from the 16th/17th century.
The museum consists of fossils found by expeditions led by Jose Gibert in three differt sites nearby in Spain. Venta Micena, Barranco Leon and Fuente Nueva. The sites were situated near the shores of a greast lake eons ago where prehistoric animals came to drink water. Many of the animals were hunted and eaten, leaving behind many fossils. They include pre-history types of goat, oxen, horse, rabbit, sabre-toothed tiger, hyena, birds and two fragments of man.
The discovery of human fossils has led to much controversy as the site predates human fossils of Northern Spain.
