This Canadian Society for Civil Engineering National Historic site is in recognition of the work civil engineers did in the surveying and construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. This site was picked for the plaque as it was the place the last spike was driven on November 7th, 1885.
The CPR is such an important part of the history of Canada and was a key part in the creation of the country coast to coast.
