The St Ives website describes the museum:
'The Norris Museum, designed by Mr Inskip Ladds, was opened in September of 1933. Built initially to house the extensive collections of books and other materials left to the then Borough of St Ives by H. E. Norris, a local historian. The collections soon expanded with donations of materials from numerous other sources to build up the remarkable selection of local historic items that are available to us today.'
