The clock was made in 1620 by the Exeter craftsman Matthew Hoppin. It consisted of a square stone dial below a niche in which the seated figure of Matthew was flanked by Jacks that strike the hour. The clock is on St Mary Steps Church at the bottom of West Street in Exeter.
