This is where the first bridge over the River Exe, built in 1200. During the boom years of the woollen cloth trade, packhorses and horse-drawn carts trying to get into and out of town would regularly get held up on the narrow bridge.

These remains have been preserved on a large traffic roundabout and are lit up at night.
As well as part of the bridge there is also a tower which was built onto bridge. As you can see the river does not flow under the bridge anymore.
