Originally contructed as part of a private resort for guest trout fishing, the two ponds you see here were improved with separate water supply intakes and drains in the winter of 1985-86 by the South King County Chapter of Trout Unlimited in cooperation with Flaming Geyser State Park and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. In 1993 the ponds were resurfaced with gunite concrete. Each pond is capable of holding 10,000 steelhead smolts that are imprinted from Christy Creek water over a 30-45 day period during which TU volunteers feed the four to six inch juvenile fish. Surviving six to ten pound adult steelhead returning in two or three years tend to hold in the park area of the Green River, contributing to sport fishing opportunities. The ponds were dedicated to the memory of Richard (Dick) Brice in 1993. Mr. Brice, who passed away in 1991, was a member of the South King County Chapter, highly respected for his hard work and passion in the interest of steelhead conservation. He was also an avid angler.
