Originally opened in 1956, Pitsford is now a recreational haven for everyone and so much more than 750 acres of water. The dam holds in place the reservoir and below is Pitsford village.

Anglia Water describes the Reservoir:
Pitsford Water
Many improvements have been made at Pitsford recently, with the help of a grant from the Millennium Fund. This was used to create 'access for all' at Pitsford Water and has led to the creation of £1.5 million development at Brixworth Country Park.

The County Park now includes:

a residential centre
catering
cycle hire
a sensory garden
a seven-mile accessible waterside track, all suitable for people with disabilities.
The development has won the Tourism for All award from the Heart of England Tourist Board.

Other leisure activities include a six-mile walk from Brixworth Country Park and wildlife lovers can get day permits and annual permits to visit the nature reserve at the northern end of Pitsford, these are available from the Fishing Lodge.

Northampton Sailing Club also sails on the lake, and runs a well-furnished clubhouse, as well as a busy racing programme.

Pitsford is a popular spot with anglers, offering fly-fishing from bank or the hire craft and the lake is stocked with 35,000 trout each year. Courses are available throughout the year; ask for a copy of our magazine Hooked for details.

Nearby Hollowell and Ravensthorpe reservoirs are also worth a visit. Although much smaller than Pitsford, Hollowell has an active sailing club and coarse fishery while Ravensthorpe offers high quality trout fishing. Details are available from the Pitsford Lodge.
