This chimney is the only part left of what was once the Selkirk Cabin. David Selkirk, his wife Perlina and their two oldest daughters came to angels Camp in 1856. For the first years, they resided in a log cabin until their house, including this magnificent chimney, was completed in 1862. Three more children were born in the house and were kept warm by this chimney.
Today, only the chimney is left. The site is located within the Greenhorn Creek Resort Golf Course and is set aside as a Protected Cultural Resources Area. There is a Virtual Geocache linked to the chimney, which is how we found the site in the first place.
A couple of interpretive tables tell more about the cabin and its inhabitants, but we can't share it here with spoiling this cool geocache.
