Tyddyn Iolyn is not your typical bed and breakfast establishment. Although it is near the seaside resort towns of Criccieth and Porthmadog, Tyddyn Iolyn is off the beaten path just enough to give you a change of pace. Is there anyplace else with two donkeys to watch you as you have your tea?

This is the place to unwind after hiking or biking through Snowdonia, exploring the former slate caverns, or riding the rails on one of the many scenic railroads.

But it is also a great place to gear up for those activities, too. A full Welsh breakfast is provided, or, for an extra £5 per person with a request the night before, a picnic lunch will be ready for as you leave for your adventures in northern Wales. The breakfast can be either a typical eggs, sausage and ham or a vegetarian option. Occassionally, a special of the day will be offered, too.

The farmhouse dates to the 16th Century. The Bakehouse (where we stayed and the only fully detached accomodation) is what is called a "ty un nos." According to medieval law at the time, if the house could be built overnight and smoke coming from the chimney by daybreak, the property was yours.

Today, Tyddyn Iolyn has 5 different rooms available (ranging from £32.50 to £40.00 per person per night) for different sized families - children are welcome to stay (£15 per child).
