This portion of the Colonial National Historic Park is the site of the first successful English settlement in the New World, Jamestown. Start at this visitor center then visit the fort and monuments.
Some of the many things to see at Historic Jamestown, a part of the Colonial National Historic Park are: Jamestown Memorial Church and the attached 17th century church tower; see the ongoing archeological digs at the area; visit the museum displaying artifacts found at the site; see the Jamestown Monument, Pocahontas statue, and John Smith Memorial; walk through the reconstructed framework of Fort James built using the post holes of the original fort; view the Confederate Earthworks on the site; visit the graves of the colonists who died the first winter after the Jamestown landing; stand at the closest point to the original landing site (now underwater)....
There is so much to see and so much to learn at this location. Take your time, read all the interpretive signs, and be sure to watch some of the excavations if they are in progress.
When you are finished be sure to take the scenic drive around Jamestown Island.
