This tree was planted by his excellency the governor Major General Sir Winston J. Dugan, K.C.M.G., C.B., D.S.O. on July 2nd 1938, being the first on many thousands planted under the scheme inaugurated by members of the R.S.S.I.L.A.(S.A) in honour their comrades who gave their lives in the Great War 1914 - 1918.
