From 6 stalls more than 30 years ago, to 180 stallholders today - Rusty's Markets is one of the largest and well-known markets in Australia.
The market is best known for good quality locally grown fruits and vegetables, but other things are also sold there like home made foods, flowers, jewelry, herbs and spices, clothes, organic health care products, fresh drinks, etc. On Sundays, the market is called, "Rusty's Bazaar", because of the wide range of products sold. But when you walk into the building, you're immediately assailed with the most wonderful aroma and bright colors of exotic fruits and vegetables (as well as the more mundane). It is a whole body experience.
This is the largest farmer's market that I have been to. Although it is in a building, the front wall and some of the sides open when in use, to create a partially open feel. There is stall after stall, almost seemingly endless, with many bustling happy shoppers actively chattering and pointing.
The market is named after the person responsible for making the market what it is today, the late the late Emrys 'Rusty' Rees. The market is now owned by Gilligan’s Backpacker Hotel & Resort, who keep the tradition going.
