Weintrop was born at 12 Hanbury Street in Spitalfields in 1896, the son of Polish Jews who had fled to London. Aged 10, he was a call-boy at the Cambridge Music Hall and two years later he made his debut, performing conjuring tricks in a talent contest at the London Music Hall in Shoreditch. He died in 1968.
