One of the largest features on Jupiter’s moon Callisto is a 1,000 miles wide multy ring structure. It is named Asgard, after the Seat of the Gods in Norse Mythology. All the craters within this structure are named after Norse gods, including the God of Sea and Wind, Njörðr (or Njord, for those whose keyboards have only 26 letters).
Rostock is Germany’s most important Baltic Sea port. In winter, the rather small Baltic Sea can get pretty rough and for centuries the town has relied on Njörðr’s divine protection. This sculpture of the god riding a sea horse is located in a park along river Warnow. It was dedicated in 2003, when the the town hosted Germany’s International Gardening Exhibition.
