During the early phases of construction for a skyscraper now officially known as
30 St. Mary Axe (or unofficially as the Gherkin), the grave of a teenaged Roman girl was unearthed.
Upon completion of the new building, the grave was
re-interred at the base of the skyscraper after being sheltered in the Museum of London during the construction period.
Her monument reads in both English and Latin:
To the spirits of the dead
the unknown young girl
from Roman London
lies buried here
